My husband and I have eaten dinner and lunch there on two separate occasions and thought the food and service were pretty lousy, and never went back. However, my husband attended a funeral luncheon there recently and this encounter really defies description. First of all the food was absolutely abysmal. Bland and awful Italian sausage, dried out chicken, and the topper, instant glue like mashed potatoes. No one at his table ate this slop. But then it got even better. The luncheon was held in a private dining room. As the people were eating their ice cream and drinking their coffee, someone in the establishment actually started blinking the lights on and off in the room to get everyone to leave. So, our friend who just lost her husband, and the rest of the funeral party were being treated as if they were a bunch of drunks being thrown out of a bar at closing time. Disgraceful!

Went here with my grandparents and parents for an early mothers day dinner. It was not too crowded yet we were seated and it took about 15 minutes before anyone came over to take our drink order. The waitress was rude and had an attitude with us as if we were a bother to her. I got the 20 oz new York strip steak which seemed to be a good price, but the steak lacked quality. The soup selection was weak so i ordered a salad which was bland and not much more than some shredded lettuce. I left full, but unsatisfied.
(2)Robert K.
Food is OK, but wow, some of the guests, especially some old men at the bar are rude as hell. It was bad enough that I am never going back. Insulting, drunk, mean, it really ruins the atmosphere. The roast beef is good, the soups are ok, but overpriced.

Ended up in Cicero due to a hotel reservation snafu, and thought the highlight of my Chicago visit would be the Applebee's two blocks away. At the urging of my colleagues, who had the good fortune of staying in Downtown Chicago, and wanted to have dinner with me, we ventured to Jenny's with very low expectations. We were all blown away by the quality of the beef, the friendly service, and the moderate pricing. If ever I'm in a hotel pinch while in Chicago, I'll stay near Midway just so I can go to Jenny's again. Kudos!

Not good. Burger was very greasy, salmon was way overcooked. Steak was just ok. Staff was very friendly, atmosphere was very comfortable. We have gone a couple of times, mostly due to a lack of good restaurants in the area, but no more. Not good.

It was pretty busy when I went here for the first time, so maybe I am missing something. I don't remember what I got, which means one of two things. I was either drunk or the food wasn't that memorable. All I remember is eating a baked potato.....hmmm.... This family-friendly place is apparently known for the steaks but I know I didn't get one. No, I'm not one of those people who goes to a restaurant that is known for one thing and not get it. This place was just okay; our server was very frazzled and seemingly for no reason. Maybe he was caught off guard that I didn't oder steak and therefore had no idea how to react. Again, nothing to write home about.
(3)Paul R.
The place is too cramped. The food was ok, nothing special. I was afraid that a server was going to drop plates on me as trays were carried over my head.

the first time we visited Jenny's it was because we had gotten a gift certificate from my inlaws. was I ever happy with that gift! I highly recommend their fried mushrooms, which have the perfect amount of light, crispy batter on them. go for the 2 appetizer plate, and add the onion loaf - a deep fried brick of very thinly sliced onion rings, that is served in the shape of a loaf pan. we followed that with our standard steak orders - filet for me, and a ribeye for him. both came cooked to perfection, and melted in your mouth. I don't think I even needed a steak knife to cut through mine. the twice baked potato was good, though I have had better. like other posters have said, service is hit or miss. I would definitely avoid going on a Friday or Saturday night again, it was so packed that it was difficult to get through to our table, and getting back out to go to the bathroom required a graceful ballet move that I haven't perfected yet. even with this, I would still go on any other night and greatly enjoy the food and atmosphere.

Boyfriend took me down to his old stomping grounds to this steak place. Saturday night, busy but had plenty of parking available. There was a long line in front of us but plenty of room to wait inside. Focus on Italian food - the bruschetta for appetizer was excellent. I had the fottini (sausage in a shell noodle) w/salad. The sausage was just spicy enough to taste but not so spicy that I knew I was going to have heartburn later (I didn't). If sausage can be smooth, it was. Loved it, actually. Service was good, attentive though busy wait staff. A very enjoyable evening.

This was my first time to Jenny's and it was our anniversary. The decor was nice and the steaks were good however the service was absolutely horrible. I have received friendlier service at fast food restaurants and given our visit was during the holiday season it was especially disappointing. Our waitress (and the other staff) rarely smiled and seemed like they did not want to be there. We never received any bread or bruschetta and when we informed our waitress of this at the end of our meal she didn't apologize and just blamed it on the bus boy. She never offered to do anything about the problem and wasn't very attentive. We had to ask for refills on our water, weren't asked if we needed additional drink orders, and had to ask twice for her to bring some sauce that we ordered. When we left, the greeters didn't say thanks or have a good night which was in line with the lack of attention we saw in other areas. It's too bad that the staff is this bad because the place was nice and food was decent.

I ate at Jenny's for the first time last night. I had the prime rib, which was the worst I have ever had. It was very dry and not tender at all as prime rib usually is. The au jus that accompanied it was tasteless - like plain unseasoned beef broth. And the mashed potatoes were definately not made fresh . The service was very good though and our server very attentive. I definately will not go back anytime soon because of the food, and not worth the price I paid!
(2)Lyndsey B.
We went to lunch at Jennys last Monday and wanted to share my experience. I dont quite remember my servers name but she was very pleasant and accommodating. We loved the bruscetta appetizer! Even more I just wanted to say that I ordered the pot roast and potato pancakes and they were delish!!! I will definitely be back for them. I see a lot of people on yelp complaining that Jennys is for old people, but personally (I'm in my 30s) I think its great to have a go-to place for comfort and home-cooked style meals. I didn't have the Jenny filet or calamari this visit but I've had it before and enjoyed. Jennys is definitely worth a visit if you're on the south side.
(5)Deb R.
Not worth the time. First of all you have to enter thru the bar, & I don't care for that. I don't like bars. I didn't go to a bar, I went out to dinner, so I went to a restaurant. It's a family restaurant. Why put the entrance in the bar? I wouldn't take my kids into a bar. There wasn't anything inherantly bad about the place. It just wasn't memorable. From the reviews, I was expecting something really special. What I got was something really average. It was just "okay". There were four of us, and no one was wow'd. The service was below average, the food was average, the atmosphere was average. We spent about as much as we do when we go to Olive Garden, and Olive Garden is head and shoulders above Jenny's. Very disappointing.
(2)Laura W.
My husband and I went here for dinner on a Friday night and had a good time. I tried one of their holiday drinks, a pomegranate martini, and it was good! You get bread and bruschetta after you order, and it is really good. I ate a blackened chicken salad with the homemade ranch dressing that they make there, and tiramisu for dessert-it was really tasty. My husband had a filet and also enjoyed his meal. Overall, very reasonably priced and good food! The crowd here seems older, but that doesn't bother me at all.
(4)Chris G.
The atmosphere is decent, the food usually good, but the wait staff could definitely use some improving. The waitress reached across the table to put down a drink & put her armpit in one of the guest's face. The bus boy asked if she was done with her plate after it was already in his hand. The tables were really close together, so close you couldn't back up your chair. The menu could use some updating. I had their london broil special, do yourself the favor and don't order it. Overall the meal was just that, just a meal, nothing really stoodout.

Best steakhouse in the area.

This will be a short review since nothing about this place really wow-ed me. My first time here was for a late afternoon lunner following a baptism. We had a party of fifty or so people in the special party room area my girlfriends family had reserved for this occasion. I didn't know what to expect of the food, but the important thing on my mind was that Jenny's Steakhouse DOES have a bar. Which really made me happy because after a long morning, I needed a Heineken or six. After slamming 2 or 3 quick Heines, the food eventually came. Finally my girl can stop complaining how hungry she is! We started out with these pails of cream of chicken soup they bring to each table which you serve yourself. Pretty neat. And the soup was good. We also had salad which was just...salad. Then the dinner came out which featured baked chicken, steak strips, mostaccioli & meatballs, italian sausage and peppers, steamed veggies, and potato wedges. Everything was satisfying. Just nothing stunningly good. The place has an old school, neighborhood regulars type feel to it. Unless I missed something, nothing about the decor will jump out at you. But good food, good service from what I saw, and comfortable. Don't know about how often, but would come here if I lived in the area. But because I'm only in the area about once a week, it most likely wont even be on the radar of eateries to hit up in the south burbs.

Jenny's original steakhouse was a South Side insitituion that was known for its special bleu cheese steak sauce--I have yet to taste its equal, even at the reincarnated Jenny's in Chicago Ridge. But this place is a worthy successor, nonetheless. The food is good and the prices are pretty reasonable (compared to North Side prices, VERY reasonable). Once a year, they have "roll back" days where you can get a generous dinner for 1970's prices. My husband and I recently went in for a roll-back dinner, and we each had a 12 oz. prime rib with a potato, veggies, salad, and bruschetta appetizer: $ 10 each . The prime rib was PERFECT. Roll-back days are packed, as you can imagine, so service was as fast as possible, but not as fast as usual, for Jenny's. Still, the server was friendly and worked hard to make sure we got our starters on time. I'd recommend Jenny's to anyone looking for a good steak or some of the other American cuisine entrees, like the ribs. Watch their sign for Roll Back days--it's a steal. Thanks, Jenny's--you rock !

We came to Jenny's for a group event that was served in the banquet room area. The food was served family style so I am unable to comment on the full extend of the menu. However, I was really underwhelmed with what we were served. The meal started out with soup served in a bucket. Yes, a bucket. What I find entertaining is my Chicago family thinks that we are hillbillies for living in the South but I have NEVER in my entire southern existence been served soup from a bucket. Hillbilly? Just a little. The soup was good though and probably the best thing, next to the bread, that we were served. The bread is what makes this a three star review. It was warm a delicious. I am glad they had it because it was the only thing that really filled my belly. Anyway, continuing through the meal...the salad was basic. Iceberg lettuce, tomatoes and cucumbers. Served with ranch. I would think they would at least offer two salad dressing choices but ranch was it. For the main course there was roast beef, pasta with sausage and chicken. I'm not a big beef eater but it was okay. Kind of dry. I wish the pasta had more to it that just sausage. Are Chicago folks against veggies or something? They could have at least thrown some peppers in there. And I didn't even eat the chicken because it just looked unappealing. Sherbert for dessert. It was really hard so I had to wait several minutes before consuming. It was good though once it thawed out a bit. Based on this experience I wouldn't come back to Jenny's unless someone in my family insisted. Hopefully we would go back with a smaller group and would be able to order from the regular menu. Then maybe I could get some veggies!

Saw this restaurant on chicagos best and because we can never find great food in our area (west lawn) we drove here to check it out. the prices are phenomenal for the food. and the food is great! i had the jenny's 9oz filet and not only was it the perfect size but it was awesome!! the blue cheese and garlic topping was superb! =) great way to make my filet stand out. my husbands porterhouse was delicious! and the bill was $56 which is even better! i especially liked the twice baked potato,,,MMMM we will definately be coming back!

Jenny's is a popular choice with my in-laws so we've been back a few times for family dinners. Seems like the wait staff can be hit or miss; sometimes they've been slow and not really "on" things, other times they seem to do better. Plate-clearing and whatnot can be a little slow, but I know when there are 7-9 people around it can make things a bit more difficult. Anyway, the bread they supply is good, and the homemade bruschetta mix to top it was delicious in spite of the olives (my personal thing). I've tended to stick with their pasta dishes, which are really tasty for the most part, with good veggies, well-done sauces, etc and enormous portions, but they also tend to be a bit soupy. Perhaps a little less sauce/broth, guys? When you're taking half your dish home, it would be nice not to have to worry about it leaking all over the car. The husband has appreciated his meat products, including ribs and a burger; the accompanying homemade chips I had a nibble of were yummy but a touch overdone. The atmosphere is full of dark wood and families. The food seems a little overpriced, but is pretty good and plentiful. It's a generally acceptable place to eat, and I've been happy enough with my meals, but I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there.

My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's day because we had a gift card, and we had heard great things. The crowd was mainly middle aged to older adults, and our server was in her late 30s. She appeared to be very attentive to other tables, but she was basically ignoring us. When I asked for a refill on my drink, I had to wait about 10 minutes, and it really wasn't that busy. I don't know if she just assumed we weren't going to tip because we were young and had a gift card, but I have rarely had such bad service. I ordered a steak and it was good, but my boyfriend's pasta was overcooked and bland. It also took forever to get our bill, and once she dropped it off, she took another 10 minutes before picking it up. I really can not believe how this place has such high reviews. I will not return.

I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit to Jenny's. Know they are known for their steaks, but had their stuffed pasta (can't remember what they called it), and it was delicious! Dinner salad was just average, but tried a friend's twice baked potato and it was yummy. Would definitely return to try their steak!

This place is a fooler. I have driven by the restaurant 100 times and was not impressed. It looks like a box. Inside I really love the decor. It is very comfortable and a touch up-scale. Like a library or study in your home. The food is not your typical generic yuk! It tastes like something. Thank God as there are fewer and fewer normal-priced places that serve real food. I have been there three times in the past several months. Everything that they served to me or my dining partners has been above average. That is no small feat in today's food world. Stop in and try something - odds are that you will leave with a smile! :)

SAD - This used to be a decent place when the owners were actually there. As we have not been there in a while, it dawns on you that if you are not a familiar face you are at a disadvantage. We called in a reservation on a Saturday evening and were no told no problem, there would be no wait. When we got there we could not believe where we were set up to dine. We got moved to a better location but could tell from the start our waitress was not happy and had an attitude: WENDY - STAY AWAY!!! She was short with a few of our guests and seemed to be yelling at us throughout. When the bill came, we presented a gift certificate given to us by a dear friend who has since passed. Unfortunately we don't get out as often as we like so our certificate was a bit aged. She returned to inform us (and most folks around us heard) it was not not their policy to accept older gift certificates. This is really sad because someone paid their hard earned cash to treat us as a guest at this place. Needless to say, we are local and will never return as well as advise all of our friends and neighbors to go elsewhere, to somewhere such as Petey's, about a mile northeast that has much higher quality food and a chef/owner who is always there and holds his customers in much higher esteem.

I go here for lunch a couple of times a month when I'm in town. The food is pretty good, but portions are a little small. The service is usually pretty good, but they can get busy with funeral luncheons (right across the street from a cemetery.) They have a really good $5.00 lunch deal, & other daily deals. The breaded pork lunch is my favorite, but I also like their beef sandwich. The sandwiches have a great taste, but as I said, they're a little bit small. They make fresh homemade chips, but I usually get fries, the chips are sometimes a little soggy. Not a bad lunch spot that's close & convenient.

Jenny's Signature Steak, Thats all I have to Say. mmmmm the blue cheese dressing on the steak is money! It is delicious and such a nice place and staff. I would recommend it to anyone.
(5)Michael C.
I have been going to Jenny's for a decade now and have never had a bad meal. The bruschetta is fricken amazing "free too!!" My favorite meals have to be the Strip steak or the fried chicken. New decor is sharp but what I love most about the place is the service and different specials they run.....back soon!
(5)Tina N.
I was expecting awesomeness.. what I got was a dirty menu, a server that apparently didn't like me from a former life & anything less than awesomeness. We had reservations so we were sat right away. Opened the menu .. Yuck! Crumbs & grease. Our server got our drinks, brought bread & took our order. Now, we obviously eat out a lot. .so I've seen my share of servers. Ours obviously had a chip on her shoulder. We would say thank you & she didn't respond. She slid the plates on the table so carelessly that one of them hit my wine glass. We asked for more bread & we never received it. Our drinks were empty for quite some time before we had new ones. It was like we literally were bothering her. Usually we tip between 18 & 20% but she got 15 from us.. it seriously was appalling. Enough about her. Let's move onto the grub. My husband's steak was nothing to write home about. It was meat on a plate. Seriously. On the other hand, I had Jenny's steak & it was pretty delicious. It was cooked to my request & the topping was yummy. The kids ribs was literally a half slab & she loved it. The interior of the restaurant needs a good cleaning & a decorating update. Sorry Jenny's, we most likely won't be back.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The atmosphere is fantastic and I love the drink specials they have during Bears and Blackhawks games. The food is delicious. I've had numerous types of steaks from there and never left disappointed. The staff is very friendly and attentive as well. Another upside is the slot machines! I would recommend this place for the food, bar, and definitely during games.
(5)Mike O.
This place is the pits. This place seems like a neighborhood place, where they know most of the customers. If you are not a regular like me, good luck. Even though I like the concept of a friendly bar, being a nobody you just get The night we went there the place was packed, so we got shoved into the back room by ourselves. The first problem was the drink service, no free refills on soda. Also I asked for no ice and they stuck a small iceberg in the glass. Two sips and the soda was gone. The second problem was we ordered steaks cooked medium well and they came out very rare. Just waited for our check and got out of there.
(1)Mike K.
Steak was Tough and had no taste The best thing were The chips Wish I could recommend this place It's seems great for grandma and grandpa who may have lost their ability to taste and just Want to be with friends
(1)Gary C.
So I ordered the 20oz ny strip and always cut down the center to see if it's to my liking (med rare) I like it a deep red but cooked as soon as I began to cut I knew it was undercooked...flagged my waitress down and let her know and she was very nice and apologetic (mind you I haven't taken a bite) they sent it back for a refire and it came back fine...still could of used another minute or 2 but either way I cut into it and it tasted like they cut it right off the cow and slapped it on the grill a tad tough And flavorless...unfortunately I will not be back (btw wife had prime rib and hers was bland as well) I understand you have to cater to old people but a little salt and pepper never hurt anyone

We frequent this place and have never had bad service or food. The location in Mokena has great pizza on the menu. The steak always comes out great and the ox-tail soup is Amazing! They also have fantastic fried chicken. The homemade rum cake is very very good as well.

Recent dinner at Jenny's was mostly underwhelming. Dimly lit and cramped dining area. Dirty menus consisting of crumbs and pieces of food stuck to the pages. Poorly washed/cleaned glasses unworthy of even my Miller Lite. An obvious lack of pride and management. Service throughout was inconsistent; our server was emotionless and cold. Ticket times for food were fine, however our request for more (complimentary) bread never showed up, and drinks were typically empty for extended periods of time. Their dinner menu had plenty of options, including steaks, pastas, sandwiches, seafood; but I made a decision early on to try their steak. I went the route of the 20oz New York Strip, with baked potato. First appearance was great; nice grill marks and cooked perfectly (medium). Once diving in, I noticed an excessive amount of inedible gristle and fat. At least 3-4oz of the steak had to be discarded. As for the rest of the steak, it was overly chewy and had NO taste. Salt, pepper, and A1, all had to step in and help. My wife's Jenny's Filet Mignon had great taste and melted in your mouth; I certainly regretted my decision. Food and drinks for three landed us in the $80 range; an obvious plus in regards to steakhouses in the suburbs. Based on the overall experience, I'll be checking some other local meat brasseries before returning to Jenny's.

Awesome. Great food. Great service. 5 stars! Try the famous 8 oz. Jenny's filet. The booths are nice an cozy. Check it out sometime will be back absolutely love it!!! We love Linda P!

An utterly awful restaurant. Unless you're a regular at the bar or one of the over-70 south side Irish that keep the place afloat, I don't know why you would go here. I've been there a few times (birthday parties for over-70 south side Irish, mostly), and each time was memorable for all the wrong reasons. The service is bad. On two occasions our waitress would forget about us for long periods of time because she was chatting with people at the bar. The ambiance is alright, but very basic. I'd rate it slightly above a 24 hour coffee shop. We were there at 4 PM and there were already loud people at the bar. At one point one of them loudly sang "Ave Obama" (what I assumed to be an original composition) for what seemed like forever. The worst, however, is the food. Poorly cooked, often cold, and BLAND. Bland bland bland. Their sandwiches are on par with a hospital cafeteria. I once ordered a beef sandwich with peppers. I got what appeared to be cooked lunch meat on a Kaiser roll with RAW slices of green pepper. Yes, raw. The roll was also completely dry. Their steaks are better, but nothing special and VERY expensive. Ask yourself- if you're going to spend 35 dollars on a steak, why settle for mediocre?

Business has gone DOWN HILL. Was seated in a booth in which the seat rocked up and down. Asked for another booth and could not be accommodated as there were other people waiting... Too heck with us. Order dinner-steaks and was told we could have two sides- potatoes or vegetables. Was not informed by the wait staff that soup and salad are now considered sides. Was changed a week ago, today is 11-29-2014. Was told too many people were throwing their vegetables away. Seriously... Ordered a sweet potato and was given a half of one which not undercooked. SAVE your hard earned dollars and eat somewhere else!

It takes a lot for a restaurant to earn less than 3 stars from me, but Jenny's Steak House managed to accomplish this rare feat. My night at Jenny's started out nice enough. Our waiter was friendly, and we had a table right next to the warm fireplace. From there it was a spiraling downhill journey. After his initial introduction, it took our waiter 15 minutes to return and take our order. We then had a series of minor issues with things like not having water or bread at the table, but I don't put too much weight in that kind of thing. I was just hoping that the delicious food would redeem the quality of the service. Unfortunately, Jenny's didn't deliver there either. I ordered the spinach stuffed chicken and it was pretty good, but the real story comes in the filet that my dad ordered. He was extremely disappointed with it because of the positive things he had heard about the steaks at Jenny's Steak House. He told the waiter that the steak was tough, which is not what one expects when they order a filet mignon. The waiter apologized, and was very professional. Then he sent over the manager. After my dad explained the situation, the manager apologized in a manner that was more rude than I thought was possible of an apology. Once he decided he was finished he just turned and left. We had no idea if he was going to bring a new steak, comp the meal or leave us there to deal with it ourselves. Wsupposed to do after you find out that the manager is going to treat you like dirt? I will not be returning to Jenny's and I would recommend that anyone that considers going here to drive down the street to Texas Roadhouse instead.

As another Yelper mentioned, it's not entirely fair to review Jenny's when you come here as part of a banquet/or event, but I'll do my best to be fair without actually having had the opportunity to explore the menu. We came here for a funeral and the dearly departed was a major fan of the establishment, so in my book that's worth a star in itself. The staff was top notch. They worked their tushies off keeping drinks refilled and serving the entrees. Everything was served family style, and tho the initial portions were not enough to make it fully around the table, the servers were more than happy to refill as needed. The soup and buttered bread were really the highlights of the meal. Simple chicken soup, served in a kettle (bucket?) on your table meant there was enough for a refill for those of us who really liked it. And I did. It tasted homemade and was very good. The bread was soft, buttery and fresh, with melted butter pre-applied. No half-frozen pats of butter to deal with here. The main course consisted of steamed veggies, that didn't taste frozen or canned, but were slightly on the over-cooked side. I believe there were green beans, broccoli, onions and carrots. We had sliced roast beef, which was well-seasoned and came in au jus. Baked chicken, which was a little dry, tho seasoned well. Mostaccioli in kind of a watery sauce, with sausage and instant mashed potatoes with canned gravy. The main course was not that great. It appeared to have been kept cooking on low, or warming for way too long. I'm sure this isn't the case when you order off the regular menu, but to accommodate large groups, I think they do what they have to do. Finally, we were served rainbow sherbet for dessert. Meh. It was fine. I wouldn't be ashamed to host an event at Jenny's. It's not five star, elegant dining, but it's economical.

I have never once went there and not walked out feeling nauseas. I do not know what it is with Jennys but the food is either too greasy, to well done or tasteless. Did I mention expensive. They seem to have a cult following among serior citizens, probably due to free coffee refills. The service is slow it is clear they cater to regular customers first and foremost. Take my advice go to Jack Gibbons, or Krapils.

Came here for the post-funeral lunch. The food was not good. The servers were very rushed - like they were trying to win a race - literally throwing the plates of food on our table and running away without any explanation. So, Jenny's Steak House, I will write this review the way you served me - fast and bland. The food thrown at us was greasy, salty soup in a bucket (why would anyone want soup from a bucket?) - which the server quickly took away without asking - iceberg lettuce scattered on a plate with ranch dressing (I guess too bad if you don't like ranch), over-cooked veggies and chicken, mashed potatoes with some kind of funky looking gravy on top, pasta /sausage with watery red sauce... and a half-scoop of sherbet for dessert. Your loved ones deserve better.
